Is Hiring a Bigger Law Firm Better Than Hiring a Small Law Firm?

A bigger law firm is not necessarily better than a smaller firm. If you or a loved one has been accused of a crime or arrested, one of the most important decisions you’ll ever make is who will represent you. Is it better to go with a firm whose name is on every billboard and running dozens of television ads? Or is it better to go with a firm that’s smaller in size but substantial in the experience? Here is some guidance in helping you make that decision.

It’s Important That You Know Your Attorney

When you work with a smaller firm, you’re hiring an actual attorney and not a firm. You will discuss your case with your attorney, not a paralegal or legal assistant. With big law firms, you may likely never meet your attorney until you’re at trial, or you may work with a team of attorneys so it’s someone different each time you communicate with that firm. Having a lawyer dedicated to your criminal case means you’ll get the explanations and guidance you need when going through what can be a complex and somewhat isolating experience of seeking justice. Add to that suffering from being out on bond and awaiting trial, or worse, being incarcerated. The solace of an attorney you know and trust can make all the difference.

Big Firms Don’t Necessarily Mean Better Results

Just because a firm has a lot of attorneys doesn’t mean it will get you a better result in your case. Smaller firms tend to be more hands-on and don’t have the large caseloads bigger firms typically carry.

What to Ask Before Hiring a Criminal Defense Attorney

Do your homework to make sure you’re making the best decision. Find out how long they’ve been practicing law and how many cases they’ve tried. Ask them what types of successes they’ve seen in the past. Also, find out who will be working directly on your case. Often, the attorney you see on television is not the one who will be assigned to your case.

Should I Hire a Big Law Firm or a Smaller Firm?

If you or a loved one has been accused of a crime or arrested, it is better if you hire a smaller firm so that you will receive personalized representation and the outcome that you deserve.
