The 2016 FBI crime statistics have been released and Tallahassee is in the top 10 for every crime category except one.
The FBI released a report breaking down the crime for each Florida city.
The categories are as follows:
- violent crime
- murder and nonnegligent manslaughter
- rape
- robbery
- aggravated assault
- property crime
- burglary
- larceny-theft
- motor vehicle theft
- arson.
Tallahassee came in No. 6 for violent crime, ranking at No. 9 for murder, No. 5 for aggravated assault, and No. 3 for rape. The city came in a close second for rape, Orlando beating it out by four.
The city’s violent crime count was surpassed by other, larger cities to include Jacksonville, Miami, Orlando, Tampa, and St. Petersburg, though Tallahassee ranks No. 7 for population over all.
The report says Tallahassee came in No. 4 for both burglary and car thefts, No. 5 for property crime, No. 6 for larceny, and No. 7 for robbery.
The only category that Tallahassee was not in the top 10 for was in arson, where the city came in at No. 27.
